Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District
The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District (AMID) is a 2,000 acre centre of excellence for innovation-led research and industrial collaboration. With exemplar models of university and industry collaboration in metals, materials, health technology and wellness across both of the city region’s universities, the district produces innovative solutions and training for globally-leading companies, UK firms as well as many of the city regions own small and medium sized enterprises. Our ambition is to create Europe’s largest advanced manufacturing cluster.
The UK’s first ‘Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District’, builds on the Sheffield City Regions world-leading strengths in advanced manufacturing and on the academic research and intellectual curiosity behind our innovative and dynamic sector.
Over the past 10 years 2m sq. ft of commercial space has been built by companies such as Rolls-Royce and Boeing. The district has a housing proposition which currently includes land and planning consent for 4,000 homes, with scope for further expansion.

In February 2017, UK supercar maker McLaren Automotive will begin construction on a new research and production centre at the heart of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District signalling a major endorsement of the areas status as a world leading place to invest.
Sheffield City Region is set to partner the world’s largest aerospace company, Boeing, in a multi-million pound investment, with plans to build its first factory in Europe alongside The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Centre with Boeing (AMRC). This further cements Sheffield City Region (SCR’s) credentials as a global centre for innovation-inspired advanced manufacturing.
