University support for High Speed Rail College

Professor Sir Keith Burnett, Vice Chancellor of The University of Sheffield, has written to Ministers Vince Cable and Matthew Hancock to express support for the Sheffield City Region bid.

Cable and Hancock are expected to make their final decision on the location of the High Speed Rail College Bid in the next few days, and local leaders have been writing to ministers to try to ensure they make the best choice.

In his letter, Sir Keith pledges his support for the Rail College to be based in Doncaster and sets out:

  • A new vision for vocational education
  • Skills underpinned by world-class research
  • An opportunity to create a new aspirational culture within higher vocational education
