Report underlines importance of education to economic growth at APPG

On Tuesday 8 March, Jo Miller, Chief Executive of Doncaster Council and Joanne Roney, OBE, Chief Executive of Wakefield Council presented a report on Schools and Skills across Yorkshire and Humber to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

The report discusses how, for the Northern Powerhouse to succeed, it must ‘sow the seeds’ of its future sustainability and success by starting young. The report points out that while educational attainment is important for a wide range of reasons, from an economic perspective it is vital for higher productivity and economic growth.

The report provides information on activity relating to each of the four Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) sub-regional areas within Yorkshire and Humber and covers:

  • The regional context
  • Key challenges
  • Achievements so far
  • Ambitions for the future
