There’s just a few days to go until Sheffield City Region’s public and private sector delegation fly out to the French Riviera in a bid to bring in new investment and drive economic growth across the region.
MIPIM Cannes, the world’s biggest real estate conference, runs from Tuesday 13 March until Friday 16 March and is internationally recognised as the place where deals get done and where new business partnerships are made.
The Sheffield City Region (SCR) delegation will be running events across four days, focusing on three main themes of our super-connected economy, our excellence in innovation and the SCR as a great place to live.
More than 80 representatives from the public and private sectors will be flying out on a dedicated Sheffield City Region flight, direct from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, on Monday 12 March.
Professor Chris Husbands, Sheffield Hallam University Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are delighted to be at MIPIM 2018 to showcase our ambitious future plans for our estate and the wider Sheffield City Region, which aims to boost economic growth and tackle societal issues through our world leading research centres.
“We have recently completed our 20-year Masterplan which sets out our ambitions for the development of a new campus heart at the gateway to Sheffield City Centre and we look forward to sharing these proposals at MIPIM.”
David Cross, managing director and founder of Sheffield and Manchester-based Coda Planning, said MIPIM is “always a valuable opportunity to spread the word about the continuing success of Sheffield and the wider city region.”
He added: “This year we really want to get the word out about this huge growth in confidence in the city and region. There are so many big new exciting schemes we’re working on. We can map whole areas of regeneration and, most excitingly, see all the cranes already on the skyline.”
The SCR delegation for 2018 includes public sector representatives, as well as delegates from partner organisations including Harworth Group PLC, Network Space, Scarborough Group International, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Trebbi, Kier Construction Northern, Sheffield Hallam University, CMS, JF Finnegan, ASK4, CounterContext, Sheffield Property Association, Engie, Turner and Townsend, Coda Planning, Arup, Bond Bryan Architects, HLM, CTP Ltd and Whittam Cox Architects.
Events will include panel discussions, networking opportunities, presentations and a dedicated presence on the Sheffield City Region stand in the Palais des Festivals, in the heart of MIPIM.
Investible opportunities spanning the city region will be presented through a brand-new interactive app, launched just in time for MIPIM. The app gives people the ability to “fly through” investment opportunities across the region, discover more about them, and see how the different schemes fit together.
Opportunities being highlighted include urban centre regeneration; residential, retail and leisure schemes; research and education at sites including the Olympic Legacy Park; and warehousing and distribution at a wide range of locations.
Simon Turner, director of building consultancy Trebbi, said: “Attending MIPIM allows us to exhibit our skills and experience and share our passion for inspiring built environments with an international audience.
“We are proud to be part of such a strong Sheffield City Region delegation and look forward to strengthening ties with colleagues from closer to home as we showcase the SCR on a global stage.”
Neil Baxter, New Business Director for energy and services specialist ENGIE’s regeneration arm (formerly Keepmoat Regeneration), will also be joining the delegation.
He said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Sheffield City Region again this year. Last year’s event was a great success for us, providing an excellent opportunity to raise our profile and make new contacts from across both the public and private sectors.
“It’s a really exciting time for us as a business, as it is for the City Region, and we’re looking forward to sharing our new enhanced offer in energy, services and regeneration.”
Jonathan Burrows, CEO of Ask4, said: “MIPIM provides us with the opportunity to network with clients and partners at a fast paced, diverse event with a global outlook. Delegates are ready to do business in Cannes, and why not, with many of the world’s most influential and dynamic real estate businesses converged on the French Riviera.”
