Vision

The vision of the Retail Sector Group is as follows:

To develop the Sheffield City Region as the premier shopping area of choice in the North of England. This will be realised by the City Region developing a national reputation for diversity of offer, dynamism, and excellent customer service.

Overview

The retail sector is the largest private sector employer in the UK, currently employing 2.9 million people.

In the Sheffield City Region, the retail sector has an economic output of over £1.6 billion and employs approximately 79,000 people.

The LEP forecasts that the retail sector will continue to grow, creating over 500 additional jobs in the Sheffield City Region in next year.

Robert Lane is the Sector Group Chairman for the Retail Sector Group. Robert Lane is a Director at Lane Walker Property Limited – a Chartered Surveyors and Commerical Property Consultants in Sheffield.

Priority areas

The Group has identified the following priority areas for further development:

  • Accessibility and improved signage and transport links
  • Marketing and branding of the Sheffield City Region retail offer including identifying the unique selling point for different areas of the City Region
  • Skills development and business support
  • Improving and widening the retail and leisure offer.
