Transport for the North conference speech

Speech delivered at Sheffield Cutler’s Hall on 11/02/19

Welcome to Sheffield. Welcome to South Yorkshire.

I am delighted that Transport for the North opted for Sheffield as the location for its inaugural conference.

Give the North the funds it needs for fair transport

As published in the Yorkshire Post on 11/02/19

TODAY, leaders from across the North will come together in Sheffield to launch Transport for the North’s Strategic Transport Plan. I met with the chancellor last week to press him on the importance of renewed and fair investment in the north of England.

Yorkshire must be prepared for Brexit

As published in the Yorkshire Post on 14/01/19.

This week marks a crucial moment in British politics. MPs are preparing to vote on Theresa May’s negotiated EU withdrawal agreement and whatever Parliament decides, communities and businesses across Yorkshire will face challenges. But it is also clear that we will be presented with opportunities. Our region’s leaders face the urgent task of ensuring our communities are equipped to face those challenges with confidence. To do this, we must be given the resources to build strong and resilient communities – and this requires the Government to work with us.
