Thank you to Sir Michael, Jenette and Greg for their words. It is a great pleasure to join you here this morning at the launch of Boeing Sheffield.

Two weeks ago I joined colleagues at the opening of three new advanced manufacturing research centres – just metres away from this new facility.

Earlier this morning I was at the launch of a new tram-train system for the region, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.

Op-ed: World Mental Health Day

Wednesday, 10 October is World Mental Health Day.

For more than 25 years, this annual event has helped to educate people about mental health, raising awareness of the barriers many with mental health issues experience, and working to break down prejudices which, sadly, still persist.

As a society, we’ve come a long way since the first World Mental Health Day in 1992. Employers are now prevented from requiring applicants to disclose their mental health history when applying for a job. And the law now states that mental health should be treated on an equal footing with physical health.

Why I'm determined to forge fitter, more active communities

It was a proud moment for South Yorkshire when our England football stars shone in the World Cup last month.

Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill were all born in our region. And our sporting excellence is just as well-known off the football pitch as on it, as the exploits of Jessica Ennis-Hill, Joe Root, Sarah Stevenson and Ed Clancy all attest.
