Op-ed: World Mental Health Day

Published on the Sheffield City Region website on 10/10/18

by Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region

Wednesday, 10 October is World Mental Health Day.

For more than 25 years, this annual event has helped to educate people about mental health, raising awareness of the barriers many with mental health issues experience, and working to break down prejudices which, sadly, still persist.

As a society, we’ve come a long way since the first World Mental Health Day in 1992. Why I'm determined to forge fitter, more active communities

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a privilege to be here this evening.

Thank you to John, your Chamber President, to the military band who have provided the soundtrack and thank you to you, the businesses of Sheffield for your indulgence at this late hour!

Speaking of which, I was left under absolutely no doubt that this was an evening with the military at its heart when I reviewed the arrangements for this evening and saw that I’d been given a very specific 22:52 slot.

Reassuringly precise John. Thank you!
