Strategic Economic Plan

The Strategic Economic Plan sets out the Sheffield City Region’s plans to transform the local economy over the next decade. It is built on a strong evidence base and widespread consultation with groups representing the city regions key sectors and business representative organisations such as the Chambers of Commerce.

The private sector led Local Enterprise Partnership Board is instrumental in developing this plan and then making sure that the objectives set out within it are delivering by our strong public-private partnership.

At the heart of the plan is the creation of 70,000 new private sector jobs and 6,000 new businesses.

Sheffield City Region has shown a gain of 37,000 jobs between 2014, when it launched its Growth Plan, and 2017.

By 2017, activity led by the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Combined Authority had already contributed 16,000 new jobs to the economy and leveraged approximately £318 million of private sector investment.

Sir Nigel Knowles said:

The ‘let’s get it done’ work-ethic in Sheffield City Region harnesses drive and ambition. With everyone pulling together, and a significant sense of community, we are achieving transformational change and building a thriving, super-connected and successful economy. This is helping to attract, retain and develop skills in the region which are so important for Sheffield City Region’s sustainable growth.
