Devolution in Sheffield City Region
We are working to secure local control over a range of national funds through two Devolution Deals with Government. Our Devolution Deals were agreed in December 2014 and October 2015 and if implemented they will transfer £1 billion of Government funding and some powers to the Sheffield City Region.
The devolution deals include taking control over the adult skills funding for students aged 19 years and above at further education colleges and training providers. We also have some freedoms and flexibility on infrastructure projects, to enable us to try and do things differently. Our full devolution agreement can be viewed on the link below:
We firmly believe that it is only through locally developed solutions that we can genuinely transform our economy into one that drives national economic growth. Much has been achieved to date, and we are committed to continuing to secure the powers and resources from central Government to enable us to go further. The next step in the devolution process will be the election of a new metro Mayor for the Sheffield City Region in May 2018.
An election is being held in May 2018 to elect the first mayor of the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority.
Further information for residents and candidates will appear here soon.
