High Speed Two is a multi-billion pound project to build Britain’s new high speed rail network.

The Government’s decision to locate a station in the Sheffield City Region recognises this area’s strategic economic importance to future UK growth plans.

The LEP Board, which includes the nine leaders from across the City Region, fully support Government plans for a new high speed rail network.

Key facts and stats of the project:

  • 330 miles of new track
  • 4 brand new stations and 5 redeveloped
  • Budget of £42.6bn (including £14.4bn contingency)
  • 53.4 km of the route in tunnels
  • 18.5km of the route on viaducts

The LEP is working with Government to ensure that the Sheffield City Region maximises the benefits of this project.
