Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, said: “This weekend will see further easing of lockdown restrictions in England as pubs and hairdressers reopen. I want to remind residents that the risk of the Coronavirus has not gone away. We all have a responsibility to keep ourselves and others safe, as the threat of Covid-19 remains.

“This week, along with the other Metro Mayors, I met with the Public Health Minister Nadine Dorries and Tom Riordan Chief Executive of Leeds City Council, to discuss the development of the Test and Trace system. I am acutely conscious that eight of the places in the Public Health England Top 10 list are in the North of England and therefore, there needs to be a particular focus on ensuring our communities get the support they need to keep residents safe.

“I’m urging everyone to continue following social distancing rules, wearing face coverings when travelling on public transport or indoors and to keep washing their hands. We must do everything we can to avoid a second wave or a return to lockdown. We must keep ourselves and our loved ones safe, and not let the sacrifices we’ve all made over the last three and a half months go to waste. We must also continue to follow the measures that are in place and stay vigilant. Together we will beat this pandemic.”
