The key towns and core city of the Sheffield City Region are undergoing a private sector led urban renaissance. The Sheffield City Region uses its available capital funding to help unlock private sector investment including transport connectivity.
Key work to enable the regeneration of Barnsley town is being carried out, which will provide a new library, town square, refurbished indoor market, and retail and leisure facilities. These developments will enhance the long term sustainability of the town centre.
The project forms part of the £320m Sheffield City Region Infrastructure Fund (SCRIF). This fund includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
This investment is expected to deliver 814 jobs.
SCR LGF allocation: £2,140,000
Total project cost: £118,918,470
