The key towns and core city of the Sheffield City Region are undergoing a private sector led urban renaissance. The Sheffield City Region uses its available capital funding to help unlock private sector investment.

This project is currently in development. The Combined Authority will consider the proposal through its usual project assurance framework to make sure that any investment unlocks economic growth and contributes to the Sheffield City Region’s ambitions to create 70,000 additional jobs, build 7,000 homes a year and create £3.1bn of additional GVA.

Seeking to arrest a decline in the Castlegate area of Sheffield City Centre, the project extends the existing grey to green corridor with enhancements to Castlegate, Blonk Street, Exchange Street/Place, Haymarket, Snig Hill/Castle Street and the former markets site.

Further information on consultation arrangements can be found on Sheffield City Council’s website https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/place-planning/grey-to-green-2/

This project, which is currently in delivery, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.

This investment is planning to deliver 766 jobs.
