The key towns and core city of the Sheffield City Region are undergoing a private sector led urban renaissance. The Sheffield City Region uses its available capital funding to help unlock private sector investment including transport connectivity.
There is currently considerable queuing causing delays along the A61 (Inner Ring Road), particularly during peak times. This improvement scheme will provide extra capacity at key junctions around Bridgehouses for all traffic along the route, providing journey time and reliability benefits for commuters, business users and public transport providers.
This project is currently in development. The Combined Authority will consider the proposal through its usual project assurance framework to make sure that any investment improves the current situation as well as enabling economic growth and contributing to the Sheffield City Region’s ambitions to create 70,000 additional jobs, build 7,000 homes a year and create £3.1bn of additional GVA. The “Inner Ring Road” project aims to help deliver transport infrastructure improvements to unlock further economic growth in Sheffield City Centre.
Further information on the Inner Ring Road between Corporation Street and Saville Street development can be found on Sheffield City Council’s website: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/home/roads-pavements/road-improvement-requests.html
This project, which is currently in delivery, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
