Intra-city connectivity is an important enabler of economic growth. By speeding up connections between the Sheffield City Region and other parts of the UK we can help deliver economic growth.
Investment in this project is designed to increase the capacity at Market Harborough station, on the Midland Mainline route between London and Sheffield, through track realignment, improving the throughput of trains for freight and passenger services. This will be achieved through the straightening of the line through the station, so trains do not have to slow down, thus saving journey time. Access constraints at the station will also be addressed, including for disabled passengers.
This project, which is currently in delivery, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
SCR LGF allocation: £5,000,000
