Removing the barriers to economic development is a key part of the Sheffield City Region investment programme; this includes flood alleviation schemes.

This project is currently in development. The Combined Authority will consider the proposal through its usual project assurance framework to make sure that any investment unlocks economic growth and contributes to the Sheffield City Region’s ambitions to create 70,000 additional jobs, build 7,000 homes a year and create £3.1bn of additional GVA.

To be delivered in the catchment of the Upper Don the project will provide improved resilience to flooding to households, commercial properties, transport and other critical infrastructure. This will enable the opening of development sites for housing and commercial development.

This project, which is currently in delivery, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
