Provision of ‘Net Zero Programme Development’

Provision of ‘Net Zero Programme Development’

In November 2019, the SCR Mayoral Combined Authority (SCRMCA) Board declared a Climate and Environmental Emergency and committed to become net zero carbon by 2040.  The target date was combined with a carbon budget for South Yorkshire of 44.7MtCO2 for the period of 2020-2100.  This would, at 2017 emission levels, be consumed in under seven years.

The purpose of this project is to develop a Net Zero Programme for SCR based upon the commitments set out in the SCR Climate Response Framework, but also incorporating context of the Strategic Economic Plan, Energy Strategy, the Transport Strategy, and relevant local and national strategies.  The outcome from this commission will be a workable Programme which can be implemented by the MCA/LEP and partners.

The scope of this commission is broken down into small work packages:

  • Developing the Work Programme
  • Framework for Prioritisation
  • Benefit Management
  • Delivery Capacity
