Help us become Routes Ready

Then we want to hear from you. Here at Sheffield City Region, we’re working to become ‘Routes Ready’ for the introduction of Post-16 Technical Education Reforms from 2020.

In September 2020, the first three “T-level” qualifications in digital, construction, and education and childcare, will begin to be delivered – and we now want to work with training providers and employers to ensure we’re ready.

The changes come after, in November 2015, the Government established an Independent Panel on Technical Education, chaired by Lord Sainsbury and tasked with advising ministers on actions to improve the quality of technical education in England.

The implementation of the Sainsbury Review recommendations will bring a step-change in the quality of technical education provision in England, including the introduction of a new framework of 15 technical routes  to skilled employment (T-levels), covering classroom-based training programmes, supported by a significant work placement requirement.

We know it is essential that young people have access to information which enables them to understand that a high quality technical education choice is on an equal footing with the more recognised academic pathways. We want to see more young people acquiring the level of skills they deserve, following a route that excites them.

So if you are a training provider or employer interested in supporting Sheffield City Region to become Routes Ready, please email senior programme manager Jill Holland on jill.holland@sheffieldcityregion.org.uk
